Great morning at "Coffee With The Crews" yesterday! It was fantastic connecting with the Oshawa Firefighters and residents there. Alongside the fire prevention information we got a chance to discuss some of the challenges they have been facing:
- Highway 407 Safety - Increased traffic on the toll-free stretch has led to more accidents lately. They explained the differences between the response vehicles and how a heavy rescue vehicle can be a massive asset when crews respond to those highway incidents.
- Emerging Risks - Electric vehicles and home battery storage are becoming more standard, and they bring entirely new fire risks. Even with smaller lithium-ion batteries, making sure not to charge them unattended and disposing of them properly is essential for preventing fires.
Events like these are a good opportunity to learn about new fire prevention strategies and how the Firefighters help keep Oshawa safe. By listening directly to our first responders, we can better protect our city and plan effectively for our community's future.
